Video: Tacoma Police Officer Drives Through Crowd

Soooooooo we’re just running people over in 2021? Mmmmmkay Tacoma Police Department.

I try to keep it light on my blog, BUT THIS is crazy. As a Seattleite, I know “sideshows” are things and it’s something you just get used to. When I lived in Renton, I hated taking 167 home at night on the weekends because 9 out of 10 there were anywhere from 10-30+ cars speeding on the freeway or doing donuts in the gas station where I liked to grab my wine. Either way, you learn to deal with it or take a different street, at least that’s what I do.

According to TPD’s statement, while responding to 911 calls about a “car meet” on S. 9th St. and Pacific Avenue one of their officers was surrounded by a crowd and after fearing for his safety he tried to drive off:

“During the operation, a responding Tacoma police vehicle was surrounded by the crowd. People hit the body of the police vehicle and its windows as the officer were stopped in the street. The officer, fearing for his safety, tried to back up, but was unable to do so because of the crowd. The officer had his lights and sirens activated. While trying to extricate himself from an unsafe position, the officer drove forward striking one individual and may have impacted others. The officer stopped at a point of safety and called for medical aid. One person was transported to an area hospital. That person’s condition is, at this time, unknown.”

As of now, the officer's name has not been released but TPD did put him on paid administrative leave.

What are your thoughts on this situation? Were you there? If so, what did you see? And lastly, does anyone know if the person that was taken to the hospital is okay? Send any and all details to me on IG @naybesa!
