Let me make a fresh cup of tea for this one đ”
Last week Tiffany Haddish gave an exclusive to Vanity Fair detailing the Grammyâs asking her to host the 3-hour pre-show for free. They also told Tiffany she would have to pay for her own hair and makeup:
âAll of that would have to come out of my pocket,â she said, adding, âI donât know if this might mean I might not get nominated ever again, but I think itâs disrespectful.â
And for those that are asking why she didnât just do it for exposer, she said âI was like, âThe exposure is amazing but I think I have enough. I appreciate you guys asking,â Haddish said. âAnd as much as I appreciate the honor of being nominated, thatâs not okay. This is something that needs to be addressed,â Haddish said. âHow many other people have they done that to? Itâs like a guy asking you on a date but telling you that you have to pay for it." [source]
Kelechi Okafor took to her IGTV with a video called âIâm not a grateful Black womanâ in defense of Tiffany Haddish. In case you missed it, check it out below:
I could add more, but why? She said everything đ€·đŸââïž What I will add is a thank you to Tiffany Haddish. A thank you for standing up for your worth. A thank you for reminding Black women that exposer is not enough. And a thank you for speaking up in a time where so many people are worried about getting canceled. And a thank you for reminding people itâs not enough to just have Black women at the table. #PayTheFee!
Recording Academy interim chief Harvey Mason, jr personally reached out to Tiffany after getting word of what happened and apologized. He also spoke out via his Instagram.
