In today’s Black Girl Magic News, once again a woman of color is making history! 22-year-old Toni Harris is the FIRST woman to ever attend college on a full football scholarship. And guess what, when she makes it to the NFL (yes we are going to speak this into existence for her) she wants to be on the Seattle Seahawks! Check out her interview with TODAY below
“At the end of the day, I told myself, ‘I cannot allow myself to live in fear.’ You don’t really live if you live in fear,” she said to Blavity
Personally, being an only child I’ve always hated the word “No” which I would follow up with a “Why?” Mainly because if you’re telling me no there better be a logical reason for it. For years I’ve heard a woman can’t play football with men; however Toni Harris just accepted a scholarship with Central Methodist University to continue her studies and play football in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
In a time where people telling you “you can’t” simply means prove them wrong, I’m proud of this African American woman for pushing past any and all obstacles that were meant to hold her back.
