The biggest names in Florida's hip-hop scene were honored by a prestigious non-profit organization on Dr. Martin Luther King Day.
DJ Khaled, Flo Rida, and Trick Daddy were inducted into the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project as mentors during its annual scholarship breakfast on Monday morning, January 19. In footage shared to social media, you can see Khaled, Flo, and Trick holding up their plaques next to Congresswoman Frederica Wilson and other city officials at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Khaled was also spotted meeting with some of the 2026 scholars following the ceremony.
"Being honored, it means a lot," Flo Rida told the crowd during the ceremony. "You know it's a testament, when you understand what purpose is and you put God first."
"I was raised by a single mama of 11 and I realize that this is about the kids and it's our future," Trick said. "I want to be a part of making that right."
"I want y'all to know the world is yours," DJ Khaled added. "You're now, you're the future. It's our responsibility to help and to uplift."
The 5000 Role Models Foundation is an educational nonprofit that was founded in 1993 by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson. She launched it as a dropout prevention program during her tenure as a member of the Miami-Dade County School Board. Her goal was to get Black and Brown students out of the streets and help them focus on their studies. The nonprofit organization helps young men get scholarship opportunities and mentorship from prominent figures in the community.
“They’ve hosted food drives, run youth football leagues, built music labs, provided mentorship, and so much more,” Congresswoman Wilson said in a statement. “These are people who, no matter how successful they’ve become, have always made sure to give back to the community that raised them and invest in the future.”
