Alicia Keys performed at Thursday nights NFL kickoff which kind of had everyone surprised, if you recall, for a long time after the NFL blackballed Colin Kaepernick..a lot of black performers refused to work with the NFL. Alicia Keys decided to use this opportunity and her platform to deliver a bigger message.
She performed "Lift Every Voice and Sing" aka the black national anthem, and her performance literally gave us goosebumps! She also said she used her performance to make a bigger announcement saying "I'm always thinking about how can I use my platform to further racial equity," well that bigger announcement is a $1 billion fund targeting black businesses and communities. She said the fund is one of the answers and our goal is to empower black america through investing in black businesses, black investors, institutions, schools and banks in a way to create sustainable solutions. The NFL is also contributing to the fund!
