Amazon announced that they will offer free shipping to all customers, not just Amazon Prime members, for the holidays. Prime members will still get exclusive benefits including free same-day delivery for over three million items. In addition, members living in certain cities can get groceries delivered within one hour through Whole Foods.

“This holiday, customers can enjoy free shipping with no minimum purchase amount on orders that will arrive in time for Christmas, including items from Amazon’s expertly curated Gift Guides across electronics, fashion, home and toys,” said Doug Herrington, Senior Vice President of North American Retail at Amazon. “With hundreds of millions of items available for free shipping to all Amazon customers and more than three million items available with Prime FREE Same-Day Delivery, customers can enjoy the largest selection of items that are fast and free.”

The move comes as both Target and Walmart said that they will be offering free two-day shipping in an attempt to put a dent in the number of people who use Amazon for their holiday shopping.

According to the National Retail Federation, holiday shoppers are expected to spend over $717 billion in November and December.
