Florida Teen Kills Mother in Argument Over Bad Grades

15-year-old Florida resident kills mother in argument over bad grades

Volusia County deputies say a 15-year-old Florida boy has been charged with killing his mother following an argument over bad grades.

“There was a D in one of the subjects is what the story is, and mom was furious at him,” said Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood.

The sheriff's department said the boy, identified as Gregory Ramos, confessed to strangling his motehr, Gail Cleavenger, 46, after the argument late Thursday night. The 15-year-old used a wheelbarrow to load his mother's body into her van and then drove it to a church where he buried the body beneath a fire pit, Fox 35 Orlando reported.

Chitwood said Ramos admitted to killing his mother while she was asleep. No one else was home at the time of the incident. The father was in Seattle on business.

The investigation began Friday afternoon after Ramos reported that his house had been burglarized by intruders who had taken computers, a Playstation 4, a rifle along with other items. He also told detectives that his mother was missing.

"He went to school, left school early, which is where his story began to fall apart," Chitwood said.

According to the sheriff's department, Ramos enlisted two of his classmates to help stage the burglary. The two 17-year-olds, identified as Dylan Ceglark and Brian Porras have also been arrested.

Chitwood called the case one of the most disturbing and saddest he's seen.

“I have a feeling this is a case we'll be hearing about for years to come,” he said. “All our hearts break for this family.”
