Super Bowl LIII is about to be lit!

Following Variety's report that Maroon 5 is set to headline the Super Bowl LIII halftime show in Atlanta, Georgia on February 3rd, 2019, Billboard has now claimed that "Cardi B and Travis Scott are on the short list" of special guest appearances for the performance. (Can I get an 'Okurrrrr'?)

While Super Bowl guest appearances have yet to be confirmed, a Cardi appearance would be pretty fitting since she and the band produced one of Summer's biggest hits with their single “Girls Like You,” which is currently No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Super Bowl LIII performance speculation first began on Wednesday (September 19). An insider told Us Weekly“The offer has been extended [to Maroon 5] and they’ve pretty much accepted." Hours later, Rolling Stone confirmed that the band was given the honor.

Keeping with NFL tradition though, the professional football league released a statement on the Maroon 5 performance "rumor," basically denying that anything had been locked in stone. “It’s a Super Bowl tradition to speculate about the performers for the Pepsi Halftime Show,” a league spokesman told Deadline. “We are continuing to work with Pepsi on our plans but do not have any announcements to make on what will be another epic show.”

While Maroon 5 has been mum on all things Super Bowl, the band's frontman Adam Levine did once express that he and the band were "very actively" wanting to perform during the halftime show. "I like the fact that we can talk about it because I think the band would be like thrilled to do it," Adam said in a 2015 interview on the Howard Stern Show. While he denied reports that they were in talks to play at that year's game, he did say the group had been on the "short list" of acts to perform that year. (Talk about life coming full circle)
